Learning Objectives:

  • Examine the issue of wound sterility with wound cleansers and why this may not even be a possible or desirable goal
  • Explore the issue of cytotoxicity, which is just as important as the requirement for germ removal, and how a balanced approach is necessary in choosing the right cleansing regimen
  • Highlight the unique properties of hypochlorous acid cleansers (pH, tolerability, ability to encourage mechanical debridement)
  • Examine, via cases, the types of in-patient and outpatient specific wounds that can be treated with pHA preserved cleanser
